Some are saying the current hurricanes and flooding are from God. Some are saying they are from Satan? Whose right? A guy on Facebook said, he can’t believe in God because a loving God wouldn’t allow innocent deaths and destruction? Some are blaming Homosexuals. Whose right?
Is God causing the destructive weather patterns we are seeing? In Isaiah 45:7 God said, He brings prosperity and creates disaster.
In Genesis chapter six, He unabashedly stated, He was the one sending a flood that would destroy all flesh.
Genesis 6:17 “And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and everything that is in the earth shall die.”
Why was He sending the flood? He regretted making mankind because they were wicked.
Here’s the passage: Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Genesis 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Genesis 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Yes, God sees all the wickedness on earth. He see’s human sex trafficking, He sees different races and nationalities, fighting and devouring each other.
He sees certain groups trying to censure and harm those who do not agree with their ideologies. If you don’t agree with them they want to shut your business down, send you into bankruptcy and threaten to kill you. Such barbaric responses to differences in opinion appears to be at odds with the sheer nature of who we are as people.
Some have determined life is all about bedroom preferences. You must agree with them or become subject to their wrath. For some reason they must have every ones approval of their lifestyle or they can’t be happy and enjoy their lives. That’s a sad way to live, when God has given us all freedom to live as we choose. We are all free to live as we choose but we will be judged according to the word. God is the only one who can judge so why worry about what mere humans think.
Yes, God sees the intimidation, and is not pleased but I’m not sure we can say He’s sending hurricanes and floods because of homosexuals, as some have claimed. After flooding the entire earth, God said, He would never do it again and gave us the sign of the Rainbow as a reminder. In Ezekiel 18:23 and Ezekiel 33:11, He said he doesn’t delight in the death of man, especially those living in sin. He wants them to live as long as they can because each day they live, they have another chance to repent. Contrary to popular belief Hell is real and He doesn’t want people to spend eternity there, separated from him.
However, there is someone who delights in death and uses bad weather to kill innocent and non-innocent, human beings. He believes if people go through hard times they will curse God in their hearts. In the book of Job, we see Satan using bad weather, strong winds, fire from the sky (lightning) to kill Job’s children, destroy his home and businesses .
In one day Job, once the richest man in the country became the poorest. Satan used the weather and resulting losses as a test to see if Job would curse God in his heart.
Job decided not to curse God but saw the events as a part of life. He said the Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be his name.
Yet, in the New Testament we see a new phenomenon we see Jesus calming a storm (Luke 8:23). Here we have a man (He was called the son of Man), filled with God’s Spirit taking authority over a storm, telling it to cease and it obeyed.
Scripture says, God gave dominion(Genesis 1:28) of the earth to man, telling him to dress/manage and to keep/protect it (Genesis 2:15). Some believe God warned Adam about Satan) that he needed to protect it from him, that is keep him from gaining dominion over the earth. Yet, in Luke 4:6, we have Satan telling Jesus that dominion over the kingdoms of this world were “handed over to him.”
How was dominion handed to him? When Adam and Eve believed Satan’s lie, they actually joined sides with him, like the fallen angels had done. God said eat the fruit you will die, Satan said, you will not die. They believed Satan and inadvertently joined the rebellion. (Note, Scripture says, Adam did not believe Satan but Eve did (1 Timothy 2:14), Adam ate the fruit to please his wife).
Jesus (the Son of man, Luke 9:56) came to earth to restore man’s dominion over the, earth, conferring a kingdom mankind (Luke 22:29) giving man power to overcome Satan’s power and authority (Luke 10:19).
Jesus exercised dominion over weather (Luke 8:23), death (Luke 7:12-14), sickness (Luke 4:38-39), disease (Mark 4:24) and any form of lack (Matthew 15:33-37). He told the disciples, these things I do you, will do greater things than these (John 14:12-14).
So who gets credit for producing or allowing the storms to wreak havoc.
God? Probably not because he said He doesn’t delight in seeing a man die.
Satan? Possibly since his goal is to get man to curse God and die. He would tempt and provoke man to curse God via trying circumstances.
Distracted Christians? Possibly, since Jesus calmed dangerous storms and gave the same power or ability to his followers. He said, “All power has been given to Him” and He conferred that power to His followers. Can we say, a sleeping/distracted church is responsible for not ceasing storms, since that’s what Jesus did?
Jesus said, in life we would have trouble. Things will come against us but we should be of good cheer because He has overcome the world (Satan’s system).
Can we speak to the storms like Jesus did and exercise authority over them? Have we tried?
If we tried, have we failed? If we failed, why? Perhaps, because we have no power? Paul said he went to the Corinthians not with words only but with power. Christians have fancy words, doctrine and theology but no power.
We are powerless in prayer because it’s the prayers of the righteous that avails much. It’s the prayers of those that do things that are pleasing in his sight (1John 3:22) that gets answered.
Satan, is crafty. If he can get the church engrossed in sin, the church will have no power. And will become subject to unnecessary trials and tribulations (gunmen going into churches shooting 83 year olds).
We become servant to the one we obey. If we sin and obey Satan we are subject to him and his ideals and are rendered powerless.
He gets to do what he wants on the earth. What does he want to do? Steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).
Many will say, we are in the last days and scripture says there will be storms and the weather proves we are in the last days. Are we in the last days? We’ve been in the last days for a long, long, long time. Is Christ soon to return? No one knows the day or the hour. We don’t know when Christ will return but we are told to occupy until he returns. Webster’s 1828 dictionary says, occupy means to take up; to possess; to cover or fill. We are supposed to be covering the world with prayer and intercession. We are supposed to live so the world will see the glory of God.
Jesus told us to pray lest we enter into temptation (Mark 14:38) Strong’s Bible Dictionary, says, temptation means, trials enticements and adversities.
So instead of blaming God and Satan for storms, hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes, maybe we should blame ourselves. We have failed to walk in obedience and we’ve failed to cover our domain with prayer, asking that God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Good things are done in heaven not bad.
